A joint group of Kyowa Suisan (Sakaiminato, Tottori) and Meiho Gyogyo (Shiogama, Miyagi) was certified Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) fishery certification in February 2024, as meeting the MSC fishery certification standard, which is a global standard for sustainable fishing. This is the first time that a Japanese-flagged purse seine vessel is gained MSC fishery certification of the Western and Central Pacific Ocean skipjack and yellowfin tuna.
Japan's first brilliant feat
Japanese-flagged purse seine vessels accomplished MSC fishery certification.
Following the certification of pole-and-line fishing, we accomplished certification for our purse seine vessels as well. As the first MSC certified Japanese fishermen, we feel strongly that we should lead the way, and we will continue to do our best to live up to the MSC philosophy.
What is MSC Fishery Certification?
MSC certified companies are proved that they meet the international standard in terms of sustainable fishery.
The certification is granted to fisheries that meet the Principles and Criteria for sustainable fishery, including resource sustainability, ecosystem effects of marine fishing and fishery management systems.
Certified seafood can be attached the MSC "Marine Ecolabel" as a marker to consumers.

Point
Meiho acquires HACCP, anti-EUHACCP to U.S.!
HACCP is a method of analyzing and preventing risk factors that may occur in all processes from the receipt of raw materials to the shipment of products, establishing a sanitation plan, and implementing and recording the plan.
The control process is verified by checking general sanitary controls such as daily cleaning of processing equipment and residue testing for allergens, as well as by periodic product inspections.
We have acquired the HACCP for the U.S. and HACCP for the EU, which are required for exporting seafood products to the U.S., EU, and other countries. HACCP for the U.S. is based on the "Seafood Processing Facility HACCP Certification System" established by the Japan Food Certification Organization, while HACCP for the EU is based on the "Certification for Facilities Handling Seafood for Export to the EU" established by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan.
