Our Specialty "Shiogama Miyagi Products"
Since the establishment in Shiogama City, Miyagi Prefecture in 1991, Meiho has been offering Skipjack and Tuna essential for the Japanese Food Culture in variety of Fresh Food Products meeting the Market needs.
Our Specialty is a product called “Tataki”. Roasting the surface Smokily and sealing the Freshness and the Deliciousness of the Fish. For Skipjack Tataki we are one of the Leading Companies with regards to Delivery quantity.
Newly Joining the Fishing Business
Achieving Stable Supply with the 6 Vessel System
We were enormously damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, however we were able to resume production early thanks to the much support we received. We were able to make our Factory most advanced, however there was great damage of the Earthquake Disaster in the main production areas in the Sanriku District making it difficult to secure raw material like before.
Therefore in the year following the disaster we acquired a Far Seas Pole and Line Vessel Meiho Maru No.22 and newly joined the “Fishing Business” to secure raw material by ourselves.
Although it was new to us we were able to set it on track with various supports. As of April 2020, we have been able to expand the Business to a 6 Vessel System.

Acquired MSC certification
Marine Resources are limited and to utilize it for the next 100 years consideration is essential.
Sustainability as our Motto we have attained the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certification for Skipjack and Albacore in October 2016 through practice of Sustainability. It is still not yet well known in Japan however interest is growing Internationally especially in Europe and the United States. We received a visit from the Crown Princess of Sweden to observe as an advanced example in Japan.
Pole and Line Vessels
We mainly operate in the Coastal Waters in Northern Japan and Western and Central Pacific Ocean with 4 Far Seas Pole and Line Vessels (including Contract Vessel) .
With our Specialty Environmental Friendly Japanese Traditional Pole and Line Fishing we supply Selected High Quality Raw Fish Material of Skipjack and Albacore etc.
We mainly operate in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean with 2 Purse Seiners.
We are catching Skipjack and Yellow Fin Tuna aiming for Environment Friendly Purse Seine Fishing.
Shaping Processing Department
In the Shaping Processing Department we process various products meeting the Customers’ demands. The purchased Skipjack Raw Material into Loins for Tataki and Skinless processing for Sashimi etc.
With the introduction of HACCP all the employees are making efforts everyday to process Reliable and Safe products and also to improve their processing skills.
Searing Proccesing Department
The Frozen Skipjack Loins taken out from the Ultra Low Temperature Cold Storage are put on the roller conveyor into the Searing Line.
In the Special Searing Machine the superb heat adjustments by the skilled hands brings out “the Deliciousness and the Aroma”.
The Seared Skipjack is Instantaneously Frozen again after inspection for bone remains and insufficient searing etc.
At Meiho we adjust the heating according to the size and fat of the raw material and pursue the Deliciousness and Aroma with the Optimum Processing Conditions.
Fresh Fish Department
We mainly process Albacore and Bigeye Tuna, offloaded in our Local Shiogama Port which triumphs as one of the largest Tuna catches in Japan, into quarters (divide right and left and further divide back and belly : loins) .
Processing in the method meeting the customers’ demands and after freshness sorting we sell wholesale to markets and mass retailers nationwide.
In summer we process Purse Seine caught Yellowfin Tuna and 100kg+ size Bluefin Tuna, in autumn the Shiogama Brand Tuna “Higashimono”, in winter Albacore and sometimes unique fish like Swordfish and Opah.
Purchasing from Shiogama Port where abundant Tuna is offloaded throughout the year, we can recognize each season with the change of offloaded fish species.
We are all working with sincerity and responsibility for the satisfaction of our customers.
Quality & Sanitary Control Department
We manage the manufacturing process based on the HACCP Sanitary Control mechanism.
We implement employee training and sanitary guidance according to the Sanitary Standard Operation Procedure and are making daily efforts to maintain and improve the Sanitary level.
To verify whether this mechanism is adequate we evaluate safety with the bacteria test of the products and wipe test of the processing line.
We actualize the Quality Control based on scientific basis and deliver safe and delicious products to our customers.
Meiho Co., Ltd. Sales Department has 3 sales offices, Shiogama Head Office, Tokyo Sales Office and Sapporo Sales Office.
We have been delivering the best products to our customers nationwide including the products of the freshly frozen skipjack caught by the company owned vessels as the main.
Each sales representative has been discussing business individually with various customers, local consumer markets, mass retailers, hotels, restaurants etc.
Each sales representative will inspect and select the raw material fish, become a skipjack professional, understand the excellence of the company products, discuss business individually with our customers face to face and deliver products meeting the customers’ demands better.
We exhibit positively to exhibitions etc. and have many customers selecting our products satisfied with not only quality but also with taste.
Cold Storage Department
The only Ultra Low Temperature Cold Storage in Shiogama with storage capacity of 4,500t.
Skipjack and Albacore raw material offloaded to the market from the company owned vessels are stored sorted by area of catch, port of offloading and size and is properly temperature controlled to keep the fresh-caught freshness.
We provide logistics service meeting the customers’ demands for the products processed in our Head Office Plant.
